High-quality, supported independence - the alternative to residential care
Scheme: A 44-bed Extra Care home at Lavender Court, Kendray, Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

Description: Bramall built 27 one-bed apartments, 17 two-bed and eight semi-detached bungalows, each with a fully fitted kitchen, walk-in shower, central heating and the latest technology such as automatic door openers and sensors to detect movement , as well as CCTV and an emergency call system. The care home has a door entry system, laundry room, restaurant, library, lounge and a treatment room for hairdressing, chiropody and alternative therapies. Older people have been provided with high quality homes, together with appropriate support and personal care to promote their continued independence and provide a real alternative to residential care. During the course of the project, fifty trainees became fully qualified after carrying out bricklaying, joinery, plastering, plumbing, roof works, window fitting, painting, decorating and electrical works.
