One of the country's best known housing specialists has been awarded a £10 million contract to build a state-of-the-art affordable housing facility for older people in Cambridgeshire.
Bramall Construction is working with Sanctuary Group, one of the UK's leading housing and social care providers, to build an 'Extra Care' facility in Lode Close, Soham, which will provide 92 apartments for people aged 55 and over.
It will replace an existing sheltered housing scheme and will combine self-contained apartments that allow older people to live independently with access to community facilities and services, providing 24-hour care and support to meet individual's needs.
When complete, the facility will include a shop, hairdressers, gym, restaurant, catering facilities, community lounges and a coffee bar. These facilities will also be open to the wider community in Soham.The scheme will be built in two separate phases over two and a half years, to help minimize disruption to existing occupiers of Keith Leonard House.
The project will also provide a boost to the jobs market, thanks to Bramall's commitment to investing in employment and training opportunities for local people.Glen Eaton, Business Development Manager at Bramall Construction, said: "We are delighted Sanctuary has awarded us this contract to develop Extra Care housing in Soham.
