Children at a Dinnington primary school can now play out all year round, thanks to social housing contractor Bramall Construction.
Youngsters at the Foundation Unit at Dinnington Community Primary School were forced to stay inside during rain or very sunny weather as their outdoor play area had no shelter from the elements.
Bramall decided to help after a nursery nurse at the unit, coincidentally named Dawn Bramall, made an appeal on Real Radio for a new canopy to cover the outdoor play area, enabling the children to play outside in any weather.
The Foundation Unit held a competition for the children and their parents to come up with ideas for the new canopy and seating area. Five year old Rylie Hogg came up with the winning design.
To help the children understand the work which would be taking place at their school, staff from Bramall visited the unit to explain the dangers of playing on building sites. Youngsters also got the chance to dress up in protective clothing, such as hard hats and hi-vis vests.
The new canopy was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on 17th November.
Nursery nurse Dawn Bramall said: "We are extremely grateful to Bramall Construction for the help they have given us. The new sheltered area means that the children can now play games and take part in group activities outdoors. The canopy has also proved popular with parents as they no longer have to stand in the rain when picking up from school."
Steve Cambell, Site Manager at Bramall Construction, said: "Bramall is always looking for ways to give something back to the communities in which we work. We are delighted to have been able to help the unit, and now the children can play out whenever they like. We would like to thank the Timber Centre for supplying the wood."
Bramall Construction is currently working in partnership with
2010 Rotherham as part of the Decent Homes scheme - a major
Government initiative aimed at bringing all council properties up
to a decent standard by 2010.
