Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver's campaign to get Rotherham
residents eating healthily has spread to Doncaster, thanks to the
partners supporting his work.
Tenants Mark Boulton, Keith Jobson and Arlene Abbott are the
latest to benefit from his 'pass it on' craze, which
involved thousands of people taking part in mass televised cooking
classes in Rotherham last year.
They will take part in sessions with colleagues from St Leger
Homes and Bramall Construction, who featured in the Channel 4 TV
hit Ministry of Food, at the Doncaster Federation's
Tenants and Residents Resource Centre tomorrow (Friday, June
26).
Bramall Managing Quantity Surveyor Steve Howard, St Leger
Homes' Assistant Director Paul Elliott and Turner and
Townsend's Chris Booth, will 'pass on' a chicken fajita
recipe learned at the Ministry of Food outlet in Rotherham.
They hope the session will encourage the tenants to share
healthy eating tips with friends and family neighbours and continue
Oliver's trend.
Arlene, who lives in Stainforth and is also a town councilor,
said: "People in my community are always looking for
affordable ways to eat healthily and it's very important for me
as I am a diabetic.
Last year, around 50 Bramall staff joined Oliver's campaign
to get Rotherham eating healthy, sharing their skills with
colleagues in a new kitchen installed in its head office.
Steve Howard added: "The cooking skills and enthusiasm for
healthy eating has certainly caught on in our place since last
year.
"It was because of that that we felt it would be good to
'pass on' what we have learned to people in Doncaster. If
this session goes well, and the tenants share what they have
learned with their friends, who knows? We may find that we've
helped the campaign catch on here too."
