Schoolchildren from Kirklees have designed their own signs warning classmates about playing near building sites as part of a safety day delivered by Bramall Construction, Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH) and Kirklees Council.
The youngsters at Fieldhead Junior Infant and Nursery School in Birstall produced posters as part of an education campaign to raise awareness of the perils of playing near construction sites in their area.
Bramall staff called at the school to explain about their work
in the area. The pupils learnt about how workers stay safe on
building sites, took part in a question and answer session and had
the chance to try on high viz jackets and hard hats.
Bramall has recently started working with Keepmoat Homes to build new houses in the area, in partnership with Kirklees Communities Association (KCA).
Vicky Blackburn, communications officer from Bramall said:
"We take our responsibilities to the communities in which we
work very seriously and it's important for us to go into
schools and educate young people about site safety.
"Getting the kids involved in our work is fun for everyone and
helps us get across the important message that building sites are
dangerous to those who are not trained to work on them.
"It's vital that we continue to get the safety message across to as many young people as possible."
Teacher Kelly Sykes said: "We were delighted to take part
in this event.
"It's great to highlight the importance of keeping safe
around building sites in such a fun way that the children will
remember, and we are grateful to Bramall's team for making the
day such a success."
