'outstanding environmental design'
A pioneering housing development built by
Bramall Construction has won a national award for its contribution
to outstanding environmental design.
Bramall has been awarded a BREEAM 'Code for Sustainable Homes' award by the world-leading environmental construction organisation BRE for its housing development in Illingworth, near Halifax.
The award recognises the fact that Bramall was the first in the country to develop social housing to Level 4 of the Government's Code for Sustainable Homes earlier this year.
Neil Baxter, Managing Director of Bramall Construction said: "We are delighted to have been acknowledged by the judges as worthy of an award for our efforts to develop sustainable housing this year. The two Code 4 homes were constructed by Bramall on behalf of Pennine Housing, part of the Synergy Group, and funded by the Housing Corporation. They will save residents money on energy and heating bills as well as reducing carbon emissions by 46 per cent compared to a traditional home. Environmental features include solar panels, improved water saving devices, insulation and recycling facilities.
BRE Global's Director of BREEAM, Martin Townsend said: "The BREEAM Awards have grown considerably over the last three years and competition was again very strong.
"These developments are good examples of extremely high standards, showing the great strides the construction industry is taking to progress and be recognised for environmental responsibility."
Bramall Construction is part of the Keepmoat group of companies and is one of the country's leading housing regeneration specialists.
